Family-Centred Service

Family-Centred Service

What is family-centred service?

Family-centred service is the foundation of CanChild’s work with families. It is an an approach to providing services to families that recognizes that services for children are necessarily services for the families. It involves a set of ideas and behaviours that look at every child within the context of their family. It recognizes that every family is unique, and it values parents as experts on their child’s needs and strengths. In this approach, families and healthcare providers work together as a team to make decisions about care and support—not just for the child, but for the whole family.
