Biography

Stephen Gentles recently completed his PhD (2015) in the Health Research Methodology Program at McMaster University under the supervision of Dr. Ann McKibbon. His thesis, titled Making Your Own Way, was a qualitative study of how parents of children with autism navigate intervention. In addition to autism, Steve has a background in health information and his research interests include healthcare consumer information use and decision-making. In his current work at CanChild with Briano DiRezze and Peter Rosenbaum, Steve is expanding the development and implementation of the ​ Autism Classification System of Functioning: Social Communication (ACSF:SC). In his primary project, he is seeking ways to convert information from commonly used autism diagnostic measures into simple ratings of social communication ability for use by researchers, professionals, and families.
